A few tax brackets ago, when I first started smoking cigars, I was huffing and puffing everything I could get my hands on. As my palate matured, my smoking habits did too. In the course of my maturation, I went from smoking when and where I could to smoking everyday…for hours. But that type of frequency usually leads a cigar smoker to settle in on a particular label or style. I’m no different. I’ve tabbed a few blends as my “daily bread”. Those blends stayed in my humidor and locker and were bought without haste whenever the supply was low. But in the midst of this weeks chaos, I opened up a 5-pack of Blood Red Moon Mini Corona by Cult Cigars and damn…I was impressed.

The minis are a solid medium bodied cigar with a nice, peppery bite that resonates right on the back of the tongue. It takes about 45 minutes to finish a BRM, but the quality of the cigar is apparent from he first puff. What it lacks in size, the Blood Red Moon more than accommodates for in construction. The Ecuadorian Habano wrapper is densely packed with Nicaraguan long filler. For a small cigar, the mini has great draw, with thick plumes of smoke coming in every pull. The experience is enhanced by the white ash that holds firmly in place as you burn away the wrapper.

As with all of the Cult products, the packaging is as distinct as the flavor. For the Blood Red Moon Mini Corona, the front of the 5-pack is a reproduction of a piece done by Cuban artist, Hector “Chino” Perez. But I didn’t pick this 5-pack up for the looks. Cult is quickly developing a reputation around the Midnight Smoke as cigar company with a growing stable of great products. The Blood Red Moon is no exception and without a doubt, it has earned its place among my daily must haves.
