Notes of Interest: The double binder was an interesting part of this cigar. Per their website "The MONTE’s signature feature is the inclusion of two binders: a spicy Dominican Olor combined with a strong and aromatic Nicaraguan Corojo which adds strength, firmness and complexity." This combination definitely adds to the unique taste and aroma of the Monte and is part of the reason why this is one of my go to sticks.

The Monte is a well constructed cigar with a very smooth chocolate colored Ecuadorian wrapper. The cap has something like a pressed pig tail but instead of trying to pull the tail I simply gave it a quick straight cut and was ready for my first pull. The first pull was full of aromatic smoke and after the first pull I noticed this cigar breathes extremely well.

The first third I did have some tunneling issues but an assist from my torch and that seemed to correct the problem. Flavor wise, the first third was consistent blend of earth tones and almond flavors. The second third was more spicy, somewhat peppery, but not something that took away from the earthy tones of the cigar. The final third was a nice consistent blend of the spices and earthiness and lead to a very strong, yet creamy finish.

During the second third I did have encounter a soft area leading to a relight but the flavor of the cigar never waivered. There were no problems with the draw and other than the tunneling issues in the first third and the softness in the second third I had no real issues with the Monte.

I love a full bodied cigar and although the Monte is a medium bodied cigar, it still has enough of a kick and a rich blend of spices and flavors that make up for it's lack of strength. The Monte is often my breakfast or morning rush hour cigar and at a price point of around $9 this is definitely one I plan on keeping in my lineup.
